It’s a new year, and like most of us, you were probably ready to run
into 2023. Did you devise a list of resolutions to make 2023 your best year ever? Did you proclaim your victory on social media and share with the world all the things you would change?
Can we get real for just a minute? How many months does it typically take before those resolutions become non-existent? 6 months? Three months? 2 weeks? Be honest!!!
Instead of running into 2023 using the same tactics as last year and the year before that, maybe we should try something different. Maybe, just maybe, we should get still and take January as the time to reflect, analyze and plan. After all, the only way to truly discover what you need or want is to get still.
I. Ask yourself, "How am I doing?"
That’s right; it is time to take inventory of your feelings. I find it hard to believe anyone could have made it through the last three years baggage free. We have all experienced pain, disappointment, anxiety and/or fear. However, most of us swept these emotions under the rug. We filled our calendars with things to do and found creative ways to distract ourselves. But here is the truth, that mountain of "dirt" is still there. Therefore, anything you attempt to do this year will be in vain unless you clean it up!
Grab your tissues, journal, and maybe a glass of wine, and settle in for the ride. Shut out all distractions, get quiet, and ask yourself how am I doing? Allow yourself to feel. Allow yourself to cry. When you can, write down all your emotions. Write down your disappointments. Write down all the aspects of your life you wish were different. Do not try to analyze them. Just allow yourself to feel and release.
II. What do you want?
This is the fun part of creating the life we want! This is the part where we get to list our wishes and begin building the life of our dreams. But we must be clear and unapologetic about what we want. Write down what you would like to see differently for every negative item on this list. Remember, the only limitations are the ones we put on ourselves. So, dream big, and yes, EVERYTHING is possible.
III. What are your intentions?
This is where so many people go wrong when it comes to manifesting the life they want. Yes, you can change your life by shifting your perspective. Yes, your thoughts become things. However, if your intentions are based in fear (i.e., jealousy, anger, anxiety, shame, etc.), you will not only attract the item you desire but also some negative consequences. Again, if you set your desire with negative intentions, you will attract negative consequences. This is how the Law of Attraction works.
Now is the time to check your intentions. If you want a new car to impress your followers on Instagram, you may want to set a new desire. You may obtain that new car, but it will be a lemon!
IV. Prioritize! Prioritize! Prioritize!
Okay, you have your list of desires. You know your intentions are rooted in good soil. But can you tackle 30 things this year? Probably not!!! Now is the time to dwindle this list down. Take your top 3-4 desires and turn them into positive affirmations, not resolutions!
That's right. We are not creating resolutions this year. Why? As a resolution is something that you will aim to achieve; however, an affirmation is something that is already done. Claim what is yours and turn your desires into positive affirmations.
V. Create your plan, work your plan!
Now it's time to break these affirmations into smaller action items you can focus on each month. Make a plan to guide you through the rest of the year and get to work!!!
Once you have done the hard work, felt the emotions, gained clarity on your desires, and created a plan, then and only then will you be ready to go!
Here is to a GREAT 2023! Happy New Year!
